Home's Cool Learning Activity: Math Facts Card Game

Home's Cool! While we're all working from home, the parents, former teachers, and play experts at EI are sharing some of their favorite educational activities to help keep your family learning and growing. Check out this idea from Stacie Palka, one of our Product Managers! Ages: 5-10 Fun way to practice math facts! Supplies:• Deck of playing cards (face cards removed)Procedure:1.  Remove the face cards from the deck, leaving the Aces (they’ll be the number 1) .2.  Split the deck evenly with a partner.3.  Choose which math function you’ll be playing with - addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. If you are working on subtraction or division, remember look at the larger number first!4.  Both players flip one card each and call out the equation. For the equation shown below, players would shout “5 times 6 is…”.math fact card gameexample: 5 x 6 =305.  Then both players race to shout out the answer. The players who calls the correct answer first wins, and keeps the cards. The player with the most cards when the decks are gone wins the game!*Younger learners can practice number recognition by turning over cards and calling out the correct number shown.StacieWith first-hand experience teaching Kindergarten and first grade and 13 years of product development know-how, EI Product Manager Stacie Palka is uniquely qualified to develop products that spark curiosity and a-ha moments.
