4 Wonderful Winter Crafts & Activities for Kids

The weather outside may be frightful, but we’ve got four FREE winter activities perfect for adding some squishy, squashy, sensory sunshine to your classroom or playroom! Log onto SparkMorePlay.com today to download free templates for each of the Playfoam activities below and keep your kids engaged, learning, and growing all winter long! Don’t have Playfoam? Don’t worry! You can use any modeling compound or other craft supplies for these activities.

Squishy, Squashy Playfoam Snowman

Keep your cool with this DIY, 3-D snowman craft! Start by downloading the snowman and accessories templates. Color each accessory and cut it out (building those fine motor skills!), then roll your Playfoam into three differently sized balls. Squish the Playfoam onto the template, then attach your accessories for a completely customized sensory snowman!

While we’re partial to Playfoam, you can use any modeling compound you have on hand. You can also use this printable as a coloring sheet and glue the accessories onto the template for a super-sweet snowman that everyone will love!

Playfoam “Ugly” Holiday Sweaters

Decorate three different holiday sweaters using sculptable, non-toxic Playfoam! Pick your colors, then pinch, roll, smash, or ball the Playfoam to match the shapes on the three sweater templates, pressing it firmly into place. When you’re done, scoop up the Playfoam, squish it back together, and begin again. Reusable Playfoam never dries out, so the festive fun never ends!

No Playfoam? No problem! Use markers, glitter glue or pom-poms to really deck out your sweaters. Once you’re done decorating, hang them around the house or classroom for your friends & family to admire!

Playfoam Snowflake Number Circles

Kids can practice numbers and quantity, key early math skills, over the winter break with this free Playfoam activity! Simply download the template, cut out the number circles, and place one in each slot of a muffin tin. Then sculpt small snowballs out of Playfoam (or use pom-poms) and place the matching number of balls in each tin.

This activity can easily be adapted for kids of different ages and skill levels. Little ones can work on counting from 1 to 12, while older kids can practice addition and subtraction. Your kiddos will be brushing up on their math skills and having a blast with hands-on, sensory learning.

Playfoam Cardboard Christmas Tree

Kids can create and decorate their very own Christmas trees with this together-time craft perfect for the holidays! Start by cutting a Christmas tree shape out of sturdy piece of cardboard. Place contact paper sticky side up onto the back of the cardboard. Next, use Playfoam, Playfoam Pluffle, or another modeling compound as well as pompoms, sequins, feathers, and beads to “decorate” your sticky tree! Top with a sculpted star, then display all season long!

In addition to exercising their creativity and imaginations, kids will also be building fine motor skills as they adorn their trees!

Using squishy, squashy Playfoam and these free, downloadable activities, you can create a hands-on, sensory-stimulating, fine-motor-skill-building, educational experience to keep kids engaged at home or in the classroom this winter. Visit SparkMorePlay.com to find all these activities and more! Enjoy!
